Which schools you can find.

The search uses the same school register as the Gezin app, refreshed every month from each country's official list:

  • Netherlands: about 7,700 primary and secondary schools, from DUO's open education data.
  • Flanders: about 4,200 primary and secondary schools of the Flemish Community, in Flanders and Brussels, from the Onderwijsaanbod of Onderwijs Vlaanderen.
  • Germany: about 22,000 schools in 11 of the 16 states, from the states' school registers through jedeschule.codefor.de (sources and licences). Schools in Hesse, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt aren't in the search yet; their state calendars are in the list above.

Counted on 31 October 2026. French-language and German-language schools in Belgium follow other calendars and aren't covered.

International schools

An international or private school is in the search only when it is in its country's register. Many international schools set their own term dates, so check the school's calendar before you rely on the regional one. If the school publishes a calendar link, subscribe to that in Gezin under Family & Settings → Subscribed calendars.

Getting the calendar into your app.

In Gezin

Open Family & Settings (tap your initials at the top right). Under Subscribed calendars, tap Add school holidays and search for the school: Gezin adds the right holidays and looks up the school's own study days. To use a link from this page instead, tap Subscribe to a calendar link, paste it under Calendar link, choose Everyone in the family and tap Subscribe.

On iPhone, iPad or Mac

Tap Subscribe next to your region or state, and your iPhone asks whether to subscribe. On a Mac, choose File → New Calendar Subscription in the Calendar app and paste the link.

In Google Calendar (Android)

On a computer, click the plus next to Other calendars in Google Calendar and choose From URL. Paste the link and click Add calendar. The Google Calendar app on your phone then shows it too.

In Outlook

Go to Add calendar → Subscribe from web, paste the link and give the calendar a name.

The events keep their Dutch or German names, the ones shown in grey in the tables above.

Questions, answered.

Which school holidays apply to my child?

The ones of the region or state where the school is, not where you live. The Netherlands has three holiday regions, Noord, Midden and Zuid, set by municipality. Flanders has one calendar for every school of the Flemish Community. In Germany each of the 16 states sets its own.

Does my child's international school follow these holidays?

Not always. Many international and private schools set their own term dates, so check the school's own calendar first. If the school publishes a calendar link, subscribe to that one in Gezin instead, under Family & Settings, Subscribed calendars.

Why are the holidays called by their Dutch or German names?

The calendars use the names the schools use, so an event matches what the school's letters say. The tables on this page give the English name next to each one.

Do I need to subscribe again every year?

No. The link stays the same. New school years are added as soon as the authorities publish them, and your calendar picks them up by itself.

Why can't I find my school?

The search knows the schools in the official registers of the Netherlands, Flanders and 11 German states. Schools in Hesse, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt aren't in it yet, and neither are French-language schools in Belgium or private schools outside the registers. Try part of the name, or just the town. Otherwise pick the region or state from the list.

Where do the dates come from?

From the Dutch government (Rijksoverheid), the Flemish government (vlaanderen.be) and the German states, as published by the KMK, the conference of education ministers. The German dates are also checked against a second, independent source.

Do you keep what I type in the search?

What you type goes to the Gezin school register to find matching schools. Our analytics count searches, but never record what you type.
